Sundowner Routines

Over the years, the Bay Area Sundowners have developed a number of different routines flown to various musical tracks.  Below is a list of some of our favorites. Many people wonder just how a team constructs and learns all those intricate movements in a new routine. If you click on the names below, you can view the diagrams that the team use to learn each one.

Exodus
This routine is one of the teams earliest and was originally developed by Randy Tom and his previous team.  It is flown to the music from the film Exodus.   It is a routine designed for 4 flyers.

Right Stuff
Another of the teams early routines, this one is flown to the sound track from the film The Right Stuff.  This is a faster moving routine than Exodus and involves some intricate wraps and turns.  It is a routine designed for 4 flyers.

Big Picture
This is the largest of the teams routines.  It is designed for 6 or more flyers and is flown to a mixture of music taken mainly from The Sound of Music.  The manouvers are not as complex as some of the other routines, but with the larger number of kites in the air, it is much more challenging to complete.  This routine has been flown with various groups of flyers, but the largest demonstration routine we have flown is in Malaysia, where we flew the whole routine with 8 pilots (that’s over 90 kites!!!)

Music Of The Night
This is the latest routine that the team has come up with and is still being developed.  It was predominantly written by Randy Tom and is flown to Music Of The Night from The Phantom of the Opera.    It is a routine designed for 4 flyers.
